g7-01. The Courage to Try New Things

尝试新事物的勇气

Life is full of challenges and new opportunities. Many of us are afraid to try new things because we are worried about failure. We think about what others might say. We worry about making mistakes. However, the people who succeed in life are usually the ones who dare to try. They know that failure is just a part of learning. When I was in primary school, I was afraid to speak in front of people. My voice would shake. My face would turn red. Then one day, my teacher asked me to give a short speech in class. I was so nervous. But I tried. I spoke slowly and clearly. When I finished, my classmates clapped for me. That small success gave me confidence. Since then, I have joined the school debate team. I have taken part in many competitions. Each time I speak in public, I remember that first small speech. Trying new things is never easy. You might fail the first time. You might feel embarrassed. But every try teaches you something. It makes you stronger. It makes you braver. As the saying goes, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." So do not be afraid. Take a deep breath. Try something new today. You might be surprised at what you can do.

g7-02. The Joy of Helping Others

帮助他人的快乐

There is an old saying in China: "It is better to give than to receive." Helping others is not only good for them, but it also makes us feel happy. I have experienced this joy many times in my life. Last summer, I volunteered at a community center for the elderly. At first, I was not sure what to do. Then I met an old lady named Mrs. Wang. She was eighty years old and lived alone. Her children worked in another city. I visited her every weekend. I helped her clean the house. I read books to her. I listened to her stories about her youth. Slowly, we became good friends. She taught me how to make dumplings. I taught her how to use a smartphone. The smile on her face made me very happy. Helping others does not require big things. It can be as simple as helping a classmate with homework. It can be giving your seat to an older person on the bus. It can be sharing your lunch with someone who forgot theirs. These small acts of kindness make the world a warmer place. When we help others, we also help ourselves. We learn to be more caring. We learn to be more grateful. We learn that we all need each other. So let us all try to help someone today. The joy it brings is priceless.

g7-03. Managing Stress as a Student

学生的压力管理

Middle school life can be stressful. We have more homework, more exams, and higher expectations from parents and teachers. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed, especially before big tests. Last semester, I slept late every night trying to finish all my work. I became tired, irritable, and my grades actually dropped. My mother noticed and talked with me. She helped me create a better study plan. I learned several useful ways to manage stress. First, break big tasks into small steps. Instead of saying "I must finish all math homework tonight," I tell myself "I will finish five problems first." Second, take short breaks. After forty-five minutes of study, I stand up, stretch, or drink a glass of water. Third, exercise regularly. A twenty-minute run after school clears my mind. Fourth, talk to someone you trust. Sharing your worries makes them lighter. Fifth, get enough sleep. A tired brain cannot learn well. Since I started using these methods, I feel calmer and more focused. Stress is a normal part of life, but we can learn to handle it. Taking care of our mental health is just as important as getting good grades.

g7-04. Learning from Failure

从失败中学习

Nobody likes to fail. But failure is not the end of the road. It is often the beginning of growth. I learned this when I entered the school English speech contest last year. I practiced for weeks. I memorized every word and rehearsed in front of the mirror. On the day of the contest, I was nervous. My mind went blank in the middle of my speech. I forgot the next sentence and stood silent for several seconds. I did not win any prize. I cried when I got home. My English teacher called me the next day. She said, "The bravest people are not those who never fail. They are those who fail and try again." She helped me analyze what went wrong. I had focused too much on memorizing and not enough on understanding the message. This year, I joined the contest again. I prepared differently. I focused on the meaning of my speech and practiced speaking naturally. I won second place. Looking back, my failure last year was my best teacher. It showed me my weaknesses and pushed me to improve. If we never fail, we never learn. So do not be afraid of failure. Learn from it, stand up, and move forward.
