g4-01. A Memorable Trip to Beijing
难忘的北京之旅
Last summer holiday, my family took a trip to Beijing. It was a trip I will never forget. We took the high-speed train from Shanghai. The train was very fast and comfortable. It took us only five hours to get to Beijing. On the first day, we visited the Great Wall. It was very long and great. I felt very proud when I stood on the wall. The wall seemed to go on forever. On the second day, we went to the Palace Museum. There were so many old buildings and treasures. I learned a lot about Chinese history. The buildings were beautiful and the stories behind them were amazing. On the third day, we visited the Summer Palace. The lake was beautiful and the gardens were huge. We took a boat ride on the lake. It was very relaxing. We also ate Beijing Duck at a famous restaurant. It was delicious. The trip was short but wonderful. I took many photos and bought some gifts for my friends. I hope I can visit Beijing again next year. This trip made me love China more.
g4-02. The Importance of Reading
阅读的重要性
Reading is one of the most important skills in our lives. It is not only useful in school but also in our daily life. When we read books, we can travel to different places without leaving our room. We can meet many interesting people in books. Reading makes us smarter. It also helps us write better. I started reading when I was five years old. My mother read bedtime stories to me every night. Now I read at least one book a week. I read different kinds of books, like storybooks, science books, and history books. Each book opens a new world to me. Reading has taught me many things. I have learned about different countries, cultures, and people. It also helps me with my school work. My writing has become much better because of reading. Some books are difficult, but I never give up. I ask my parents or teachers for help. Reading opens our eyes to the world. It also makes us think more deeply. A good reader is a good thinker. Let us read more books!
g4-03. My Hobby - Playing Piano
我的爱好 - 弹钢琴
I started learning to play the piano when I was six years old. At first, I did not like it because it was hard. I had to practice for an hour every day. My fingers hurt sometimes. But my teacher was very patient. She encouraged me all the time. Slowly, I began to enjoy playing the piano. Now I can play many songs. I play the piano for thirty minutes every day. It has become a part of my life. When I am sad, I play the piano and feel better. When I am happy, I play my favorite songs. Music is my best friend. Playing the piano has taught me many things. I have learned to be patient and never give up. I have also learned that practice makes perfect. Last year, I took part in a piano competition. I won third place. I was so happy. I will keep practicing and become better. I hope I can play in a big concert one day. Music makes my life colorful.
g4-04. My Neighborhood
我的社区
I live in a friendly neighborhood. There is a small park at the corner of our street. Every evening, neighbors walk their dogs and chat with each other. There is also a bakery that sells fresh bread. The smell of bread fills the air every morning. I often go there with my mother to buy breakfast. Across the street, there is a bookstore. I spend my pocket money on storybooks there. Our neighborhood has a community center too. On weekends, it offers free classes for children. I joined an art class last month. I learned to paint landscapes with watercolors. The people in my neighborhood help each other. When someone is sick, neighbors bring food and flowers. When it snows heavily, we shovel the sidewalk together. I feel safe and happy living here. A good neighborhood is like a big family.
g4-05. A Science Fair Project
科学展览项目
Last term, our school held a science fair. Every student could choose a topic and do a project. I decided to study how plants grow toward light. I planted three bean seeds in three small pots. I put one pot in full sunlight, one in partial shade, and one in a dark cupboard. Every day, I watered them the same amount and measured their height. After three weeks, the results were clear. The plant in full sunlight grew the tallest and had the greenest leaves. The one in shade grew slowly. The plant in the dark cupboard became yellow and weak. I made a poster with photos and charts to show my findings. On the fair day, I explained my project to teachers and parents. I won second prize in my grade. This experience taught me that science is not just in textbooks. It is all around us. We can discover amazing things through careful observation.
g4-06. Being a Good Friend
做一个好朋友
Friendship is one of the most important things in life. A good friend is someone you can trust and share your feelings with. Last month, my friend Lily failed her math test. She was very upset and did not want to talk to anyone. I sat next to her at lunch and listened quietly. I did not try to fix everything. I just stayed with her. The next day, I offered to study math together after school. We reviewed the difficult problems step by step. Two weeks later, Lily did much better on the next test. She thanked me with a big smile. Being a good friend does not mean giving expensive gifts. It means being there when someone needs you. It means keeping secrets and telling the truth. It means celebrating your friend's success without jealousy. I am lucky to have good friends. I will always try to be a good friend to them too.
